-
Q: What is Hormone Therapy (HT) and what are its benefits?
Hormone Therapy (HT), previously known as Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), can help some women reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, support bone health, and reduce the risk of age and hormone-related complications. It is the most effective FDA-approved treatment for moderate to severe menopause symptoms.
-
Q: Is Hormone Therapy suitable for everyone?
No, HT isn't the best or safest treatment for every patient. Women with certain health conditions like breast cancer, endometrial cancer and unexplained uterine bleeding should not undergo hormone-based therapies. Those with active liver disease, a history of blood clots, or cardiovascular disease deserve a discussion and a shared decision if hormone-based therapies are right for them.
-
Q: What kind of comprehensive care does Talas Wellness offer beyond hormones?New List Item
Beyond hormone therapy, Talas offers:
Lifestyle Medicine Integration: Nutrition counseling, exercise planning, stress management strategies and sleep optimization.
Sexual Health Support: Treatment for vaginal dryness, decreased libido, and intimacy concerns.
Body Composition Management: Protein optimization and resistance training guidance. Dexa body composition imaging to assess lean muscle, body fat and visceral fat levels. High levels of visceral fat that lives around internal organs are strongly associated with increased risk of cardiometabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.
Non-Hormonal Therapies: Alternative treatments for women who cannot or prefer not to use hormones.
Preventive Care: Bone health assessment, cardiovascular risk management, and cancer screening.
-
Q: Why Talas, Why Now?
Dr. Afshar, a practicing OB/GYN since 2006, realized a massive void in care for women during perimenopause after experiencing it herself. After losing her mother to breast cancer, she started Talas Wellness, dedicated to her mother's memory (Tala), to provide specialized, comprehensive, and compassionate care.
-
Q: Who is the ideal patient for Talas Wellness?
The ideal patient is a woman who is invested in self-care and values both external appearance and internal well-being. They feel their body or personality is changing despite normal patterns and traditional interventions, feel unseen and their symptoms persist. They are looking for a close, trust-based relationship backed by science. Has a commitment to long-lasting changes, passionate about healthy, whole foods. Someone who is open to changes that may show slower but are long-lasting.
-
Q: How does a typical patient feel at their first point of contact?
Patients often feel confused or unseen about perimenopausal/menopausal changes, or they are not getting support from their primary gynecologist for midlife concerns, sexual health, PCOS, or weight loss. They may have tried various diets, medicines, and exercises without significant improvement, or they are ready to start taking care of themselves with a medical coach practicing personalized, evidence-based medicine.
